The Nationwide Highway Visitors Security Administration rolls out a new wellbeing rating method Tuesday -- one with more rigorous requirements.
"More stars equal safer vehicles," Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood mentioned in the assertion.
"With our upgraded Five-Star Security Ratings Process, we're raising the bar on wellbeing. Via new checks, far better crash information, and increased requirements, we're making the wellbeing ratings harder and more meaningful for customers."
The wellbeing ratings variety from 1 to five stars, with five stars becoming the highest.
The company will release on Tuesday the ratings for the primary 2011-model-year autos evaluated under the new method -- 55 complete: 24 passenger vehicles, 20 SUVs, two vans and 9 pickups.
"For more than 30 years, NHTSA's 5-star crash testing program has been the gold standard for customers looking to purchase the most secure vehicles around the market for their families," NHTSA Administrator David Strickland mentioned in July when the new method was introduced.
"Now, this fantastic program has gotten even far better by making it easier to compare the wellbeing efficiency of autos not merely when it comes to crash survivability, but when it comes to avoiding crashes within the initially location."
The brand new ratings will consist of an all round vehicle score, which combines the outcomes of a frontal crash check, aspect crash checks and rollover resistance checks. For the primary time, the check also will use female crash check dummies to similate issues that have an effect on women.
